Identifying Phishing Emails

Usually, people visit phishing website by clicking on the link in the spam message. Every day, millions of such letters are sent. They urge recipients to go to the website and give sensitive information - user names and passwords, credit card numbers, etc.

Phishing Emails Have Several Characteristics:

  1. Because phishers send a large number of spam messages, they often have generic greetings and do not indicate the name of the recipient (The *** Bank Customer).
  2. Call to action. Phishing messages contain a call to action. It is often argued that if the recipient does not take action (click the link, give the login and password, etc.), his/her account will be terminated. If you have received this message, try to call your bank by phone and clarify details.
  3. Fraud links. Cyber criminals can register domains that look like the domains of well-known companies and organizations. But be careful, often these domains differ 1-2 symbols. For example, the letter O can be replaced by the number 0. Clicking the link brings you to a phishing site. Another way of cheating is sending HTML messages. Specified in the HTML email message is a link that can lead to another site.
  4. Fake sender. Look at the message headers. Be careful when Received from field does not match the address of the sender.
